William Seymour day book, 1794-1797.

This pocket ledger, as the owner called it, is attributed to William Seymour of Hartford, Connecticut. From the entries, it appears he was a merchant and ship owner, and at one time invested in land in South Carolina. He noted which ships were leaving for which ports in the West Indies and France, and which vessels were returning. His most common customers were Ebenezer Stevens, Henry and Thomas Seymour, and Nathaniel Ingraham. Seymour owned vessels named the Schooner Quintessence, Brig Prudence, Brig Peggy, and the Sloop Betsy that was seized and condemned in Halifax, Nova Scotia. There is also an entry about the Hartford State House lottery, and investment in a theater.
